Visualizing the oil
I’ve been reading a lot about the BP oil spill lately, and crossed this website, which is helping people like me and you visualize the size and scope of the spill itself. It uses data about the spill’s breadth and maps it onto the zip code you choose using google maps. It offers a fresh perspective. Take a look for yourself.

Rachel Maddow commented on the BP spill, and what she said makes a lot of sense: we’re spending so much time/energy to plug the leak or build relief wells that we need to remember all the oil that’s already in the gulf and harming the ecosystem. The disbursment chemicals didn’t do much, and ‘some’ politicians are not willing to severe the million-dollar contracts BP has with the US government….
But that website you posted does help put the magnitude of the spill into clear perspective.
